The Pittsburgh Pirates unveiled the new Three Rivers Stadium following the All-Star break in 1970, hosting the Cincinnati Reds in the first game on July 16th. Cincinnati won the game 3-2 when Lee May drove in Tony Perez with a 1-out, 9th inning single. The Reds would finish the season with 102 wins, sweeping these same Pirates 3-0 for the NL Pennant before losing in 5 to the Baltimore Orioles in the World Series. This official Giles National League baseball is team-signed by members of the 1970 Cincinnati Reds. The ball, which displays slight toning, is inscribed Opening Game C-3 P-2 Three River Stadium July 16-70 in an unknown hand, and features 21 signatures in red ink, including such notables as Johnny Bench, Ted Kluszewski, George Sparky Anderson & Lee May. The item comes with an LOA from JSA.
